Important Information About Porting Your Number

  1. You must keep service active with your existing local provider while your port is being processed.
  2. If you have a PIC Freeze on the telephone number you are trying to port, you must call your local telephone company and ask them to lift or release the PIC freeze.
  3. If the telephone number you are trying to port is assigned to a DSL line, you need to make arrangements to change your DSL line number so that your DSL isn't disconnected once the number is ported to ZingoTel.

How Do I Find Out If My Number Is Portable?

Please send an e-mail to port@zingotel.com with the numbers you would like to port in the subject line. If you are currently a ZingoTel customer, please be sure to include your customer ID (a 6-digit number you received after signing up) in the e-mail. We will notify you within 24 to 36 hours (typically one business day) if your existing number can be ported to ZingoTel. You will receive further instructions at that time.

My Number is Portable. What Do I Do Next?

Please download the appropriate ZingoTel port form here. Fill out and sign the form. Then fax it back to ZingoTel at 1-877-475-4171 or email a digitally scanned copy to port@zingotel.com.

How Long Does it Take?

Typically it takes between 2 to 4 weeks to port a number from one local phone company to another if all paperwork is completed properly and all PIC freezes are lifted by the customer. A PIC freeze is an option the local telephone company may have offered you as an added security measure to prevent an unauthorized port of your number. You the owner of the phone number would know if you exercised that option when you signed up for service with your existing local provider.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Porting Process

What notifications will I receive from ZingoTel?

You can expect at least 2 notifications regarding you port status:

  1. ZingoTel will send notification on receipt of approved forms submitted to our local providers for processing. If your forms are not completed properly you will be notified of any discrepancy to be corrected and resubmitted for processing.

What could cause a porting delay?

Most common delays for porting are due to incomplete or inaccurate data submitted in the port forms. The local carriers will not release the telephone number to ZingoTel unless the name, telephone number, and service address all match EXACTLY a copy of the recent phone bill with the same information. As frustrating as this may be, the details required are for your protection.

What happens if I select "hold my order until my number has been transferred" during sign up?

If you completed a new order and selected "hold my order until my number has been transferred", your order will be held for processing until we validate that the telephone number you requested can be ported to ZingoTel. We will notify you of the results and send you a link to download the forms and complete the process.

Can I port my cell phone number?

Unfortunately at this time you cannot port your cell phone number to ZingoTel.

Can I port my number if I have DSL?

Some DSL subscribers must have a phone number with the company providing their DSL internet service. If this is the case for you, we recommend either transferring your DSL service to a separate phone number (with the cheapest calling plan) or switching to cable Internet.
