Job Summary Statement
The VoIP network engineer will design, deploy, and optimize VoIP services in a heterogenous network of IP telephony devices and application servers.
Job Description
- Configure and maintain IP PBX solutions based on the Linksys Voice System (LVS). Components include the SPA9000 IP telephony system, SPA942 IP phone, WIP330 wireless IP phone, and related VoIP customer premises equipment. Respond to the needs of business customers, address trouble reports, customize features such as IVRs, and analyze quality of service (QoS) issues.
- Configure and maintain telephony and switching servers, including proprietary class 5 softswitches, asterisk PBX servers, and SER/OpenSER routers. Implement solutions designed to ensure reliable switching and access line services. Provide quick resolution to escalated customer issues regarding connectivity, proper functioning of calling features, call quality issues, and voice mail services.
- Create basic configuration tools in a Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) development environment.
- Implement and maintain domestic, international, toll-free, and N11 call origination and termination services. Resolve routing issues, monitor route quality, and work with our carriers to address interconnection and interoperability issues. Maintain inbound DID services and wholesale routing services.
- Capture and analyze call flows using tools such as ethereal, snoop, and other debugging facilities. Understand correct SIP protocol behavior and identify SIP protocol issues from signalling logs. Identify interoperability issues between customer premises equipment, softswitches, and carrier gateways.
- Develop clustering and load balancing solutions based on Cisco routers, DNS SRV and round-robin, SIP-aware controllers, virtual IPs, and Linux-based solutions such as Linux Virtual Server and heartbeat.
- Document data networks and networking assets.
- Maintain heterogenous network of RedHat Enterprise Linux 3/4 servers, Solaris servers, and Cisco gateways.
Skills and Qualifications
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
- Knowledge of SIP protocol and analytical skills.
- Linux, Solaris, and Cisco IOS systems administration (2+ years).
- TCP/IP network engineering (3+ years).
- Understanding of IP telecommunications origination and termination issues.
- Asterisk (or comparable system) telephony scripting and customization.
- PHP scripting (1+ years).
